More Dropping Deuces than Chunking Up

I went down to climb in Arkansas from January 17 to the 22nd. The quality of the sandstone at Horseshoe Canyon Ranch is phenomenal and most of the bouldering and sport climbing is within a very short hiking distance from the camping area.

The first two days were spent climbing around the Ranch and the next two were spent climbing around Cowell where the popular Fred's Cave is located.

We didn't try that many problems harder than V5, but the ones we did were really good. I was very pleased to tick off Numerical Methods V8 at the Idaho Boulders along with the ~15 foot arete Old English V3 (sketchy for climbers from MN).

The weather was quite nice other than the mystery mist keeping a large quantity of holds damp from condensation. Here is a short little video I put together of the trip:

HCR Bound

Future prospects might be a little bit better than previously thought. Through some good fortune I may find myself climbing in Arkansas for the week with Ross and Damon. The bouldering around Horseshoe Canyon Ranch and in the Ozark Mountains has received a lot of attention in Dosage III/V and also from numerous top climbers across the United States.

I am very interested in trying the boulder problem Fred's Cave (second problem in video below) and possibly the Daily Planet.
